Scope of Work
Solution
As Project Manager Shahn Bragg developed a build programme for off the design and managed up 40 staff and contractors delivering the construction including engineers for the steel structure, roofing and steel tying contractors. He organised the roof lift involving four cranes, two of which were brought in from outside the region. With 8 meter eaves and a 14m roof apex, the Bragg team involved received working at heights and elevated working platform training.
Bragg team self-performed the concrete apron boxing and preparation for the pad and 2m deep sump portals, installation of the fire panel, construction of air vents on the east and west sides and installation of the Kingspan exterior cladding brought in from Australia. The concrete pour required 750m3 of concrete equating to 125 truck loads. Starting in the early hours of the morning, the work was hampered by a snow storm that led to the concrete trucks being assisted to access the site and water pumps applied to the footings. With all hands on deck the pour was still completed successfully within 48 hours. Shahn communicated closely with the Netherlands based owner who followed progress through camera surveillance, he also organised all building inspections and oversaw the code of compliance requirements.
Outcome
The building was completed on time and within budget and quickly. It stands as a testament to BBD’s capability to manage and successfully deliver complex commercial building projects of scale.
